About this topic
The world has 197 sovereign UN-member states — the 193 voting members plus a handful of widely-recognised additions, including two of the most recently admitted nations. Together they cover every inhabited landmass on Earth, six populated continents, eight time-zone hours of longitude apart, and nearly eight billion people. This is the canonical test for any geography learner — the single quiz that defines the genre.
This topic ships in five modes covering all 197 states: click each country on the world map, type the name from a highlighted shape, pick the country from four options, sort countries from distractors in tile rounds, or match countries to their capitals across ten regional rounds. The map covers 196 of 197 (one micro-state's land area is too small to render reliably at the world zoom level — it appears in every non-map mode). Every mode counts toward your topic mastery.
Difficulty bands let you start where you're comfortable: Easy covers the 30 most-recognizable countries (G7 + G20 + major news-prominent nations), Medium adds the next 50 (regional powers, well-known capitals), and Hard requires all 197. Most players land somewhere between 130 and 170 on their first full Hard run; the record for similar tests is under eight minutes for all 197 typed in.
This is the most-attempted single quiz in trivia history (~500M total runs across the genre). It is the quiz that teaches you to read a map.
